9-12 April 2014, Tübingen
The first MNU Spring School in Research Ethics was organised by Dr Hans-Jörg Ehni from the Institute of Ethics and History of Medicine, Tübingen, with the aim of providing doctoral students with an introduction to the basics and current issues in the field of research ethics. The Spring School was funded by both the Baden-Württemberg Foundation’s BWS plus program and a grant provided by the Tübingen University Foundation (Universitätsbund).
The Spring School brought together experts, early-career researchers, and students (mostly PhD) from different disciplines concerned with research ethics: medical ethics and the philosophy of medicine, pharmaceutical law and bioethics, medical humanities, law and bioethics, and other areas of medicine and bio-sciences. Participants came from Durham, Uppsala, Queen’s, UWA, Utrecht, Rotterdam, and Tübingen. Presentations were given by all participating professors as well as several doctoral students and students also took part in group work on the Declaration of Helsinki and on ethics committees.
It is hoped to build on the success of this inaugural Spring School with further annual summer/winter/spring schools at MNU universities.
