Start-up meeting for MNU online platform on World Literature, Uppsala University

May 18, 2018

Colleagues at Uppsala University are seeking to create a series of virtual Matariki seminars on the theme of World Literature and will meet on 18th May in Uppsala to begin planning for this. The aim of the virtual seminars is to build on the expertise of literary scholars across the Matariki partner institutions, whose research focuses on the dynamics of colonial power and its continued impact on the creation, circulation and reception of World Literature. It is hoped that the seminars will form an online multilateral platform, where researchers and doctoral candidates can present and discuss their research. Given the difficulty of working across different time-zones, all seminars will also be archived on a shared virtual seminar homepage.

The initial start-up meeting is open to all interested parties and will focus on the philosophy and scope of the virtual seminar as well as the practical implementation of the platform. The start-up meeting will coincide with a symposium in honor of Katherine N. Hayles, James B. Duke Professor of Literature at Duke University and the holder of a distinguished visiting professorship from Uppsala University for the period 2018-2021.
