Professor Anders Hagfeldt, Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University and Chair of the Matariki Network, has been awarded H.M. The King’s Medal by the King of Sweden in recognition of his “meritorious contributions to the Swedish university system.” The medal will be presented at a ceremony at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on 9 September.
This prestigious honour reflects Professor Hagfeldt’s outstanding leadership and impact across higher education, both nationally and internationally. As Chair of the Matariki Network, he has played a central role in strengthening collaboration between member universities, championing research excellence, and supporting the continued growth of the partnership.
The Matariki Network is also pleased to celebrate this recognition alongside colleagues from Uppsala University. Professor Lars Wallentin is honoured for his outstanding contributions to cardiovascular research, and Professor Maria Ågren for her significant work in Swedish historical research.
First awarded in 1800, H.M. The King’s Medal is one of Sweden’s most distinguished honours, recognising individuals for exceptional service and contributions to society.
