Matariki Research Seed Fund 2025/2026 – Now Open for Applications!
The Matariki Network of Universities (MNU) is pleased to announce the launch of its third round of Research Seed Funding, aimed at fostering deeper collaboration in globally relevant research fields across our partner institutions.
This competitive funding opportunity supports bi-, tri-, and multilateral research projects between MNU members, with a strong encouragement for proposals involving three or more partners. The goal is to catalyze impactful collaborations that lead to outcomes such as third-party funding applications, major joint publications, and long-term research partnerships.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proposals from any thematic area are welcome.
- Projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are particularly encouraged.
- All proposals must reflect MNU’s five guiding principles and values.
- Early Career Researchers (ECRs), within six years of completing their PhD, are especially encouraged to apply.
Key Details:
- Funding available: Up to £25,000 per project.
- Project duration: 12–24 months.
- Start date: Projects must begin no later than 1st May 2026.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be eligible to serve as Principal Investigator (PI) at their home institution and have proven expertise in the proposed research area.
- Collaboration: Proposals must include researchers from at least two MNU institutions. Multilateral partnerships are strongly encouraged. Bilateral proposals should include plans to engage additional MNU members.
- External collaborators: Non-MNU partners may participate, but must do so at their own expense.
Application Timeline:
- Call opens: Wednesday, 8th October 2025
- Deadline: Submit completed applications by midday (GMT) on Monday, 15th December 2025
