As of 1 January 2026, Professor Anders Hagfeldt, Rector of Uppsala University, has assumed the role of Chair of the Matariki Network of Universities. Professor Hagfeldt will serve a two-year term, guiding the network’s strategic direction and fostering collaboration across our global community of member institutions.
Joining him in leadership is The Hon. Grant Robertson, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Otago, who has been appointed Vice-Chair. Together, they bring extensive experience and a shared commitment to advancing the network’s mission of promoting excellence in research, education, and international engagement.
The network also wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to Patrick Deane, Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University, for his distinguished leadership as Chair from January 2024 – December 2025. We look forward to an exciting period of collaboration and innovation under the guidance of Professor Hagfeldt and Vice-Chancellor Robertson.
