The floods and tropical storm thrashing the North Island of New Zealand serve as a stark reminder of the challenging future we all face, and our responsibility to lead change.
For quite some time we have had the idea to facilitate better sharing of knowledge and support across the Matariki Network of Universities. We all have incredible initiatives happening locally, and sharing our learnings has the potential to multiple the impact we have available to us.
Therefore, as sustainability leaders within the Matariki Network of universities, we would like to invite you to the first Climate Hui (gathering) of the network. Please also share this opportunity across the relevant areas of your institution.

Matariki Network Climate Hui-It’s time to talk climate change.
Who is it for?
If you are involved in any aspect of campus operations that will be affected by, or will impact on climate change, you are welcome to join us.
What will the hui achieve?
The objectives are to establish a community of committed staff across the network, share stories of what we are all doing, and inform the shape of future hui.
What is the format?
University of Otago and University of Durham are co-hosting this is initial online gathering. It is split over two sessions so that we can bridge all of the time zones of the Matariki Network members. The sessions will last around 2 hours and will be informal and participative. You are welcome to join both, but in most locations only one session works for time zones.
Is this only for professional/operational staff or academics as well?
The interface between our operations, the research, and the learning that happens on our campuses is going to be critical. Using our campuses as “living labs” needs us all to work together. So, all are welcome.
